How to Get Notifications for New Music on Spotify

Situatie

If you follow artists and podcasts on Spotify, you probably want to know when they release new music and episodes. Notifications for these things have been notoriously unreliable in the past, but Spotify has made some changes. We’ll show you.

For a long time, the Spotify app on iPhone, iPad, and Android had a toggle in the notification settings for new music, but it never really did anything. In August of 2021, Spotify revamped notifications by adding a “What’s New” feed to the app.

What Is the “What’s New” Feed?

The “What’s New” feed is exactly what it sounds like—a feed that lists new music from artists and bands that you follow, plus new episodes from subscribed podcasts. It’s all in one list and can be found from the bell icon on the Spotify Home tab.

The “What’s New” feed can be organized by “Music” and “Podcasts & Shows.” If only the rest of Spotify could be separated as easily. The content in the feed is in chronological order, with release dates listed under the titles.

That’s all there is to the “What’s New” feed. It’s just an easy-to-access list of new content from artists and podcasts that you care about.

How to Turn On Notifications for New Music on Spotify

The “What’s New” feed is handy, but what about actual notifications for new music and episodes? We’ll show you how to do that, too.

  • First, open the Spotify app for iPhone, iPad, or Android. Tap the gear icon in the top-right corner.

Scroll all the way down to “Notifications.”

There are a number of notification categories. For new music notifications, select the aptly named “New Music.”
