How to Remove the Bing Image from Windows Search Bar

Configurare noua (How To)

Situatie

The Bing image in Windows 10 and Windows 11’s search bar is part of a larger effort to create interactive content on the Windows desktop. The image changes daily, and sometimes multiple times per day, in an effort to keep users engaged with the search bar.

The images are intended to be both visually appealing and informative, providing users with a glimpse of what they might find if they were to search for that particular term. While the current crop of images is largely static, Microsoft has plans to add more interactive elements in the future.

Disable Search Highlights
  1. Right-click anywhere on your Windows taskbar where there is an empty space. This is going to open up a context menu with your taskbar settings.
  2. Hover your mouse cursor over Search. A side menu should open.
  3. Click on Show search highlights if it’s currently turned on. You’ll know if the feature is enabled if there’s a checkmark on the left of it.
  4. You should notice that the search highlights and Bing image disappears from your taskbar.
Use the Registry Editor
  1. Press the Windows + R keys on your keyboard. This is going to bring up the Run utility.
  2. Type in “regedit” without quotation marks and press the Enter key on your keyboard. This will launch the Registry Editor application.
  3. Use the navigation pane on the left side of the window to reach the following Registry key, or use the address bar and copy-paste the location:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer
  4. Right-click anywhere in the right-side pane, and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value from the context menu.
  5. Name the value “DisableSearchBoxSuggestions” and hit Enter on your keyboard. This will create a new value you can modify to make deep changes to your system.
  6. Next, double-click on the newly created DisableSearchBoxSuggestions volume to open its properties. Make sure to set the Base to Hexadecimal and then change the Value data field to 1.
  7. Click OK and reboot your system. After the system is done restarting, check if you successfully removed the Bing Image from your Windows search bar.
Uninstalling the Bing Wallpaper Application
  1. Open Control Panel. You’ll find this in the Start Menu or by searching.
  2. Select “Programs” and “Programs and Features” to change, repair, or uninstall programs.
  3. Click to select “Bing Wallpaper”.
  4. Click Uninstall. This button is above the programs listed next to “Organize.” Doing so will begin the uninstall process for Bing Wallpaper.
  5. Follow the on-screen steps to uninstall Bing Wallpapers. Click Yes when prompted twice, then wait for the application to finish uninstalling.
  6. Restart your computer after you uninstall the application.
Using Group Policy Editor
  1. Open Group Policy Editor by searching it out of the Start Menu.
  2. Go to the following location.

    Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Search

  3. Look for Allow search highlights.
  4. Double-click on the policy, select Disabled, and click Apply > Ok.
