Feeling like you can’t delete your Skype account? It’s because Microsoft has made it incredibly difficult to do so. But the good news is that it’s not impossible. When Microsoft acquired Skype, it became an integral part of Microsoft accounts. This means that in order to delete your Skype account, you have to delete your entire Microsoft account.
When you complete the process, Microsoft will initiate a 60-day grace period. During this period you can still recover your account by signing in and it will still be discoverable in search directory. After that, they will delete your Skype account permanently.

To permanently delete your account, follow these steps:
Start by finding the profile icon in the upper left-hand corner. Click on it and choose Settings from the drop-down menu.
This will open the Account & Profile menu. Click on Close your account. Skype will ask you to verify your identity in a few different ways depending on the information you’ve previously entered. You may have to re-enter your password and then verify your account via email or SMS. Once you’ve done so, you’ll advance to the next window.
Read the items in this window and follow their instructions if any of them are relevant to you. You will be closing your entire Microsoft account, so there may be a few other accounts you might want to take care of before moving on. Once you’re sure you want to continue, click on Next.
The next window will feature a checklist that will make sure you understand the consequences of deleting your Microsoft account. If you don’t use any other Microsoft services, this checklist will be largely irrelevant to you. If you do, review each item to make sure you want to delete your account. Then, select the reason for deletion from the drop-down menu (or select My reason isn’t listed) and click on Mark account for closure.
Now wait 60 days and your Skype account will be deleted permanently along with the rest of your Microsoft account.
