Make sure that you back up your iPhone. It’s rare that something goes wrong during an iOS upgrade, but in case it does, it’s crucial that you have a fresh copy of your data that you can restore onto your phone.
Once you’ve backed up your iPhone, connect your iPhone to Wi-Fi. You can use 4G or 5G, also, but Wi-Fi is often faster and doesn’t have any monthly data limits (iOS updates are big files that use a lot of data!).
With that done, tap Settings.
Tap General.
Tap Software Update.
Your iPhone will check to see if you have an update. If there’s one available, tap Install Now (the button might also read Download and Install).
You may be prompted to accept terms or take other actions in pop-up windows. If so, tap them and continue.
The iOS 14 update will download. How long this takes depends on how fast your connection is.
Your iPhone will install iOS 14 and restart. When it does, you’ve got iOS 14. Tap any onscreen prompts and you’ll be ready to start using it!
